Caroline W. Pitkin

(18589 – 1937)

Caroline Pitkin was born in 1858 in New York City, where she would live for most of her life.  She studied painting with William Merritt Chase, Frank Dumond, Brirge Harrison and Charles Woodbury.  She exhibited her work at the National Academy of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, among others.  She was a member of the Pen and Brush Club, the Allied Artists of America and the National Association of Women Artists.   Pitkin was a regular visitor to Ogunquit, Maine where she would paint sea and landscapes.
