Mortimer L. Smith

(1840 - 1896)

Mortimer Smith was born in Jamestown, NY in 1840 and lived in the Detroit area most of his life.  He studied art in the cities of Oberlin and Sandusky, Ohio.  he exhibited his paintings at the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Michigan State Fair, and at the national Academy of Design in New York.  He was also represented at local galleries in Detroit.    His work is now in private collections across the country.
