Philip Little

(1857 – 1942)

Philip Little was born in Swampscott, MA September 6, 1857.  He attended the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts with Frank W. Benson and they lived together for a time in Salem, MA.  He was a very civic minded man.  From 1887 - 1901 he served in the Massachusetts National Guard.  He was also elected to the Salem Board of Alderman and was a member of the Salem, MA School Board.  Little exhibited his landscapes and scenes of coastal New England throughout the United States and Europe.  Little died in Salem on March 31, 1942.
